    Add filterable categories

Did you know that IDEA YACHT allows you to add your own filterable categories for your equipment and spares?

For example, to fall in line with your Critical Equipment List, Classification Societies now need spares and equipment to be designated as ‘Critical’ or ‘ISM Relevant’. But it could also be necessary just for your own convenience to have further categories which then helps you to search and filter for this data in IDEA YACHT

The location to add and set these categories can be found here:

For Items: Settings -> Dropdown Fields -> Stock Control -> Spare Categories

    Managing resigned/dismissed crew

When managing your crew in IDEA sooner or later you will need to resign or dismiss crew accounts.

When this is the case you do not want to simply delete these accounts, especially if these crew members were active onboard and you want to keep their data, but instead you want to move these entries to the corresponding status like RESIGNED or DISMISSED. This will remove these accounts from having any affect on your crew related reports, KPIs or reminders. Read more…

Further more you want these persons and accounts no longer being able to access IDEA. For this there is a DENY LOGIN button in their details which you need to activate. This will also remove their entry from the drop down in the login page.

Also you should never overwrite existing users (which did actually work on the vessel and in IDEA) with their successor. Rather proceed with their accounts, as explained above, by moving them into the resigned or dismissed status, and always generate a new account for the new crew member.

Important Note: overwriting existing accounts may result in wrong audit data since entries from the previous account owner would now be overwritten with the new account owners details.

Your licenses in IDEA are not coupled with the amount of crew & guest accounts. You can generate as much entries as need without this having any affect on your licenses.

    IDEA DATA HOURS OF REST

The yachting industry is demanding and fast-paced; yacht crew members work tirelessly to ensure that a yacht runs smoothly and that guests onboard are happy and satisfied. However, it is important to remember that yacht crew are subject to legal limits on their working hours, which are put in place to protect their health and safety.

    Maritime Labour Convention

The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) is an international labour standard for seafarers established by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The convention sets out minimum requirements for working hours and rest periods for seafarers, with the aim of ensuring that seafarers are not overworked and that they have sufficient rest periods to maintain their health and well-being.

Under the MLC, the maximum hours of work per day for seafarers are 14 hours, and the maximum hours of work per week are 72 hours. However, these limits may be extended in certain circumstances, such as during an emergency or when the ship is entering or leaving port. In such cases, the seafarers must be compensated with additional rest periods or pay.

In addition to setting maximum working hours, the MLC also requires that seafarers are provided with adequate rest periods. The convention stipulates that seafarers must be provided with at least 10 hours of rest in any 24-hour period, and at least 77 hours of rest in any seven-day period. These rest periods must be free from work-related duties and must be uninterrupted, except in cases of emergency or other exceptional circumstances.

The MLC also requires that seafarers be provided with regular breaks during their working hours. The convention stipulates that seafarers must be provided with a minimum of one hour of rest during any period of work exceeding six hours, and that this rest period should be divided into two periods of not less than 30 minutes each.

The Maritime Labour Convention sets out important regulations on working hours and rest periods for seafarers. By ensuring that seafarers are not overworked and that they have sufficient rest periods, the convention helps to protect the health and well-being of seafarers and ensures the safety of the ships on which they work. It is important for captains and owners to comply with the requirements of the convention to ensure that crew are treated fairly and with respect.

    Hours of Rest

IDEA YACHT’s Hour of Rest module provides captains, bosuns, and chief stewards with the ability to track crew member working hours, how much rest they have had, see their working schedule, and ensure they have accrued adequate rest on an easy-to-navigate platform.

With a calendar view, crew time balances and scheduling, and the ability to flag violations of working time directives, IDEA YACHT’s Hours of Rest overview is invaluable to making sure that rotas are adhered to and that your operations remain compliant. Moreover, crew can clock in and out themselves via a specially generated QR code.

Don’t run the risk of falling foul of Maritime Labour Convention working hours with IDEA YACHT’s Hours of Work module. I you’d like to learn more, book in a call with one of our yacht management software experts.

    Ask The Dirk

Did you know that you can help IDEA pre-calculate the due times of your hour counter based tasks by setting up an estimated daily increase of the hour counter?

This setting won’t actually change your hour counters but only allows IDEA to calculate the most likely due time for the tasks related to the corresponding hour counter.

The calculation is being corrected with any change of the hour counters value and the computed due will be more precise the more hour counter readings you entered.

    Snag List Feature

Released in our 2023.1 release is a brand-new feature that will help you keep track and more efficiently manage repairs and tasks on your yacht by creating a snag list.

Snagging and identifying faults, issues and works to be undertaken are essential to ensuring quality and safety onboard. The IDEA Snag List feature allows you to consolidate information and workflows to enable you to keep track of the status of a project and keep information regarding the works in one place.

It provides the possibility to mark locations on the GA and attach documents, notes, images and videos with multiple custom workflows to meet your vessel operations. Assign tasks to crew members, manage budget for the specific repair, and identify previous similar repairs to ensure you retain value for your asset.

The Snags can be linked to any data out of the vessel database like components or tasks to keep all information within one system to simplify the management of warranty claims and the creation of worklists for refits also.

The IDEA Snag List add-on is the ideal communication tool to document and report all kinds of issues and damages during daily operations.

A precondition to activate this feature is either a valid support plan (SP10) or a cloud package (SP11, SP12 or SP13) which includes unlimited IDEA app devices (Android and iOS) to make the creation and handling of snags as easy as possible.
