    Why we do not build up every database by ourselves

    Over the years I have been asked on various occasions “Why doesn’t IDEA force users on new-build and existing projects, to get a database populated in a standard format”, “Why does IDEA still sell empty software to new customers” and “why don’t you insist on a full training plan for new users once the software is purchased?”.

    Well the simple answer is: because here at IDEA we want to provide our customers, with a solution which fits your needs. With collaboration between both parties, we aim to provide systems which tick all your boxes and leave you to concentrate on the more important tasks on-board.

    A little story I would like to share with you:
    “On a 68meter vessel a towel rail broke in one of the guest cabins. To replace this towel rail could became a very difficult task, due to the fact that there are hundreds of different manufacturers and designs available on the market today. Even if you could source a similar rail, there is a distinct possibility that the screw holes do not line up with the originals, resulting in a very expensive process or even having to replace a whole panel to accommodate the new fittings. The stewardess in this instance, who was familiar with the on-board database located the necessary part in the data file, which was listed together with the photo of the item, the details of manufacturer and the supplier. In no time at all the towel rail was replaced with the same part as the original, saving a lot of unnecessary additional costs.”

    A package like IDEA will result in an easy to use database, and will allow the crew after only a few hours training, to use nearly 90 percent of the software’s potential! Not only saving you time but money.

    Moral of the story: The investment in a software package can save you not only in the short term, but having a well-documented and maintained asset can save money over its entire life-time.

    How to raise events and link components with different equipment types!

    Hi All,

    this week we have the next two gems I would like to share with you:

    • Maintenance events, get tasks due by starting an event
    • Component equipment types, tag components with multiple custom types

     

    A point on the wishlist list was a change in the maintenance system. With the next major release you will be able to raise maintenance events in IDEAYacht.

    A task can be connected to an event – if this event is now started, the task will get due at the given date.

    An event can be raised using the calendar page, simply right click and select raise an event or by using the raise event button on the maintenance plan page.

    This will allow you to simply plan spare parts for docking periods, and all other events you would like to track in all departments.

    Our third change is related to equipment type (components).

    User are now able to select multiple custom value for a component.

    This allows people to tag a component with their own data and offers new ways to structure your data.

    All existing data was converted to the new schema, no change is required from the user to use the new system.

    Hi All,

    This month is full of new features, I am proud to present you my favorite two:

    • A peek to  the user interface changes, including upgrades for elements and pages
    • The new and improved vessel wide calendar view

    Let’s start for this news feed with the new calendar view that is located under Home.

    The calendar is able to show information from the following system parts:

    • Maintenance
    • Safety documents
    • Certificates
    • Leave and rest (sick and holiday)
    • Crew and guest – Birthday, passport ,crew ID cards, medical details
    • Drills
    • Purchase

    The calendar also allows you to hide/show different types or search in  the database.

    After some months of being anxious for getting a release date of our Mobile Application for iPhone(TM), it has been released without further notice. Thanks Apple: AppStore!

    Getting all the advantages of our mobile offline version to an iPhone(TM) is the newest and hottest IDEA development!

    Also the new release 2018.3 rocks:

    – A recycle bin for the complete vessel database
    – The first bits and pieces realigned for the IDEA user experience redesign (new pages, new menu, new clarity within the modules)
    – A filter section for the Purchase Order module to filter and order the PO tree
    – Search functionality for documents attached to a history entry

  • New look and feel

    New look and feel

    This summer brings a lot of changes to our company and our products. As you might have already noticed from the teaser on our homepage, we are rebranding our company with a new homepage and a new company name. Spectec GmbH will become IDEA Data Solutions GmbH – to keep in line with our original name back in 2001.

    Additionally, we are moving to a new and larger office in Düsseldorf to be prepared for future endeavours and to create innovative new products.

    For you, as our client, there will be some exciting developments, too. Apart from a new and user-friendly homepage, we will improve our support with a new software that will allow us to help you more efficiently and provide you with new options to interact with us.

    Furthermore, we are working on new exciting features for our software IDEA.NET that will be released in the near future. We will introduce new functions, improve usability and a new look. We look forward to many exciting changes in the future.

    With all the exciting changes going on in our company, the IDEA team will still be available for you to support you in your daily life.

    Great success for the IDEA TEAM at International Palma Boat Show 2018

    The 35th International Boat Show in Palma de Mallorca took place from 27th April to 1st May 2018.

    With its unique location at the centre of Palma and an energetic atmosphere, the show emerged itself as a great opportunity to get in touch with a couple of new potential clients and the possibility to demonstrate the capabilities of our software.

    We were able to meet with existing clients, start very informative discussions about upcoming trends in the yachting industry, receive valuable feedback for IDEA.NET and talked about upcoming new functionalities in our software.

    To us, this year’s Palma International Boat Show was a huge success and we enjoyed the trade fair very much. We will definitely return for the 36th PIBS in 2019 and hope to see you around.

    PRIVACY POLICY MODEL FOR MOBILE APPLICATIONS

    This privacy policy governs your use of the software application IDEA SBA (“Application”) for mobile devices that was created by IDEA SpecTec GmbH. The Application is maritime asset management for maintenance, stock and crew data designed for fleets or single vessels.

     What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

    User Provided Information

    IDEA will only collect Personal Information that you have voluntarily provided to us or have agreed to have provided to us. The Application obtains the information you provide when you download and register the Application. 

    When you register with us and use the Application, you generally provide 

    • your name, email address, password and other registration information;
    • information you provide us when you contact us for support;
    • information you enter into our system when using the Application, such as contact information and project management information.

    Examples of why we collect Personal Information are:

    • establish identity;

    Automatically Collected Information 

    In addition, the Application may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to,

    • the type of mobile device you use

    Does the Application collect precise real time location information of the device?

    This Application does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile device.

    Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

    Only aggregated, anonymized data is transmitted to external services to help us improve the Application and our service. We will share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy statement.

    We may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:

    • as required by law or government agency, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process;
    • with our trusted services providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement.
    • if IDEA SpecTec GmbH is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this information.
    • We may need to transfer your information to other group companies or service providers in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). This may happen if our servers or suppliers and service providers are based outside the EEA, or if you use our services and products while visiting countries outside this area.

     Data Subjects’ Rights

    Data Subjects are entitled at any time to obtain confirmation of the existence of Personal Data and to be informed of their contents and origin, to verify their accuracy, or else request that such data be supplemented, updated or rectified (Section 3 articles 16 to 22 of EU Regulation 2016/679 Link to europa.eu).

    The above Section also provides for the right to request erasure, anonymisation or blocking of any data that is processed in breach of the law as well as to object in all cases, on legitimate grounds, to processing of the data.

    What are my opt-out rights?

    You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.

    Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information

    We will retain User Provided data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. We will retain Automatically Collected information for up to 6 months and thereafter may store it in aggregate. If you’d like us to delete User Provided Data that you have provided via the Application, please contact us at info@idea-sba.com and we will respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data may be required in order for the Application to function properly.

    Children

    We do not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at info@idea-sba.com. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.

    Security

    We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. Our computer security specialists build security by design by default into our computer systems. The aim is to protect your information, when it is stored in data files or handled by our employees. Our systems are also designed to protect your information when it is transmitted, for example, between our data processing centers, and corporate offices. Personal Information may be stored or processed in any jurisdiction in which we or our affiliates, suppliers, subsidiaries or agents maintain facilities. By supplying us with Personal Information, you consent to any transfer of this information to other jurisdictions (including countries which have not been assessed for adequacy of privacy laws within the European Economic Area (EEA)).
