Chief Engineer

The chief engineer on board a luxury superyacht manages all aspects of engine room operations including safety, maintenance, repairs and inventory along with management of the engineering team on larger vessels.

The monitoring and maintenance of equipment is the most important aspect of the chief engineer’s role. It is crucial for the safe operation of the ship to make sure that all critical equipment is adequately maintained at all times. To perform all planned and unplanned maintenance, spare parts must be available on board at all times. The chief engineer must see to it that inventory stock levels are always sufficient.

Being able to generate maintenance job lists for a specific timeframe within our IDEA yacht management software helps the chief engineer organise his department and perform maintenance tasks at the correct time. In addition to this, he can document the routine checks in the engine room and log and use the archived logs to detect a possible equipment failure.

The stock control system helps the chief engineer keep track of all his inventory, therefore reducing stock-keeping costs. Barcodes simplify the replenishment and commissioning of inventory items.
